A stray dog that bit dozens of citizens at Buleleng Market in Bali has been confirmed to have tested positive for rabies. This conclusion was established based on laboratory test results conducted on the dog.

“The results are already in and it has tested positive for rabies,” said the Head of the Buleleng Regency Agriculture, Food Security and Fisheries Department, Gede Melandrat, when confirmed by detikBali on Tuesday (10 March 2026).

Melandrat stated that residents have requested that stray dogs in Buleleng be eliminated. However, he emphasised that prevention efforts should be pursued through vaccination.

“That is the community’s request, particularly for stray dogs without owners. However, we are still providing health education (KIE — communication, information, and education) to prioritise vaccination,” he added.

Previously, a stray dog had gone wild and bitten 15 citizens at Buleleng Market on Sunday (8 March) in the morning. The dozens of bitten residents subsequently received medical treatment at Buleleng Regional General Hospital (RSUD).

The Head of the Buleleng Health Department, Sucipto, stated that all bite victims have been directed to receive anti-rabies vaccine (VAR) at health centres. According to him, the victims will undergo a complete vaccination course comprising three injections following the first vaccine.

“We are taking precautions by providing a complete vaccine course. So the vaccine is given on the first day, then continued on day seven and day fourteen,” said Sucipto recently.
