A stray dog believed to be rabid bit a vegetable seller at the Pasar Galiran Terminal in Klungkung, Bali, on Thursday (11/6/2026). The dog was immediately caught and killed by residents. Its carcass was left lying next to a public toilet at the Galiran Terminal.

The trader bitten by the dog, Wayan Rusmini (45), suffered serious injuries to her thigh. The Bangli resident was immediately taken to the Klungkung Regional General Hospital (RSUD) for medical treatment.

Made Supardi (50), a bus driver at the Pasar Galiran Terminal, explained that Rusmini was eating at the time. A white dog suddenly came and attacked the victim’s thigh. After biting, the dog still appeared aggressive.

“Then we caught it together. It was very fierce, it tried to bite, and we killed it,” Supardi said.

Rusmini’s fellow vegetable trader, Nyoman Suci (49), explained that there are many stray dogs at the Pasar Galiran Terminal. She believes the dog that bit her colleague was definitely rabid.

“If it wasn’t rabid, it wouldn’t have attacked suddenly like that. My friend certainly didn’t provoke it. This dog was definitely rabid,” Suci stated.

Suci hopes the relevant authorities will carry out an elimination of the numerous stray dogs at the Pasar Galiran Terminal, especially now that a biting case has affected her colleague.

“It was definitely rabid. There are so many stray dogs here. They all look diseased as well,” Suci added.

Head of the Klungkung Agriculture Agency, Ida Bagus Gede Juanida, said he had not yet received further information regarding the case. However, judging by the location, he confirmed that the dog that bit the resident was a stray.

As for the victim’s treatment, the Klungkung Regional General Hospital will certainly administer the Anti-Rabies Vaccine (VAR) immediately.

“At RSUD Klungkung, the VAR can be given directly to the victim without needing to coordinate with the animal health centre,” Juanida explained.
