Stranded in Doha, Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights Refuses to Return Alone to Seek Safety
The Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights (HAM), Mugiyanto, remains in Doha, Qatar, after his flight was stalled due to the conflict in the Middle East. He says he has received many suggestions to return to Indonesia via other routes. However, Mugiyanto does not want to seek safety by himself and leave behind other Indonesian nationals stranded in Qatar. ‘There are certainly many inputs, many suggestions for me to be able to return to Indonesia. For example through Saudi Arabia. In essence, it’s good to get out of this region, the Middle East. But I personally do not want to insist on, like seeking safety by myself,’ Mugiyanto said, quoted from a post on the official Instagram account, Thursday (5/3). He says he wants to accompany the Indonesians who are stranded. According to reports, 135 Indonesians are detained at Hamad International Airport. Meanwhile, in total there are about 27,000 Indonesians in Qatar. ‘If you look at Indonesians living here, there are about 27,000. That means the number in a vulnerable situation is that many,’ he said. On the other hand, Mugiyanto believes Iran will not act unwisely by attacking civilian facilities and so on. He also referred to the communication between Foreign Minister Sugiono and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi regarding the conflict. ‘The President has also called the Emir, yes, the Emir of Qatar. It means this is okay. Indonesia’s position is safe, so to speak. Not, not targeted or not disliked,’ he said.
