Strait of Hormuz Reopened, Two Pertamina Tankers Prepare to Pass Through
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) has prepared a passage plan for two Pertamina vessels detained in the Strait of Hormuz to enable them to resume sailing promptly following Iran’s government announcement of the reopening of the sea route. “We are on standby to conduct intensive monitoring and prepare safe sailing plans so that the Pertamina Pride and Gamsunoro vessels can cross the Strait of Hormuz,” said Acting Corporate Secretary of Pertamina International Shipping, Vega Pita, when confirmed by ANTARA from Jakarta on Saturday. She explained that the preparations undertaken by the company include route compilation, risk identification, electronic navigation, and contingency plans. PIS is currently actively coordinating with various relevant parties, including the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu), which is intensively assisting with communication through diplomatic channels with the relevant authorities, she said. “The company’s priority remains on the safety of the ship’s crew as well as the security of the vessel and all its cargo,” Vega stated. On Friday (17/4), Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that commercial and shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz would be fully opened during the ceasefire. “Given the ceasefire in Lebanon, traffic for all commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz is declared fully open for the remaining duration of the ceasefire,” Araghchi said via social media platform X. The two tankers operating for Pertamina were detected still in the Persian Gulf region, according to the Vessel Finder ship tracking website up to last week. The Pertamina Pride vessel was detected off the coast of Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia; while the Gamsunoro vessel was recorded off the coast of Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
