Bekasi City Police’s Narcotics Investigation Unit (Satresnarkoba) arrested a man identified by the initials AS who is suspected of being a drug dealer within a network based in Sumatera. From his rented house on Jalan Bintara Jaya RT 014 RW 09, Bekasi Barat District, Bekasi City, police seized more than 30 kilograms of cannabis that had been packaged for sale.

The head of the Bekasi City Police’s Narcotics Unit, Senior Commissioner Kusumo Wahyu Bintoro, revealed that the suspect used a special modus operandi to mislead officers during the transfer of the illicit goods. ‘The modus operandi is wrapped with coffee powder, so the smell of cannabis is not detectable. The shipments were sent via express parcels,’ Kusumo Wahyu Bintoro told media on Tuesday (3 March 2026).

Kusumo explained that the cannabis had already been distributed to several areas in Jabodetabek and beyond. ‘Its distribution was in the Jakarta, Depok, Bekasi areas, and there are also some that have been sent to Surabaya,’ he said.

According to him, AS is part of a Sumatra drug network. However, police are still conducting further investigations to uncover the network above it. ‘From what we see, this is a Sumatra-based group,’ he added.

The case was uncovered after about two kilograms of cannabis were found in the Sumber Artha area, Bekasi City. From the follow-up investigation, police traced the suspect’s rented house in Bekasi Barat. ‘Initially we uncovered two kilograms in the Sumber Artha area. Then from the subsequent development, at the suspect’s house we found two sacks of cannabis,’ Kusumo said.

In addition to the evidence in Bekasi Barat, police also found 10 kilograms of cannabis at another house in Tambun, Bekasi Regency, which was still connected to the suspect. Kusumo noted that one package of cannabis weighing one kilogram was sold for Rp 4.5 million. ‘This one package sells for Rp 4.5 million,’ he said.
