Nusantara — The State Mosque of the Nusantara Capital (IKN) is providing up to 700 portions of breaking-fast meals daily for members of the public wishing to break their fast during Ramadhan 1447 Hijriah.

“Each day approximately 700 portions are prepared for residents who come to break their fast, so that sweetness and warmth are felt not only on the tongue, but also through togetherness at the mosque before the Maghrib call to prayer, and even through Taraweeh prayers,” said Alimuddin, Deputy of Social Affairs, Culture, and Community Empowerment at IKN Authority, in Nusantara on Sunday.

He stated that the State Mosque of IKN wishes to continue fostering togetherness by uniting the Muslim community through communal breaking of the fast by preparing breaking-fast meals, with its signature offering being Bubur Nusantara (Nusantara Porridge), which is prepared on-site in the mosque courtyard within the core governmental centre.

He noted that the presence of Bubur Nusantara is part of an effort to promote local wisdom from the IKN region and surrounding areas, as the porridge recipe originates from Samarinda Seberang in East Kalimantan and has been passed down through generations, traditionally served only during Ramadhan.

The light brown porridge, topped with golden spice powder, is prepared for approximately one and a half hours in the mosque’s kitchen.

Various spices blended into curry seasoning are the key to its flavour. From this simple kitchen, local flavours have found their platform in the Nusantara Capital.

“We are attempting to promote local wisdom from around IKN and East Kalimantan, with the hope that it becomes more widely known. The general public is welcome to come to the State Mosque. We endeavour to make this place a symbol of harmonisation and diversity,” he said.

In this developing Nusantara, Bubur Nusantara is not merely a breaking-fast dish. It has become a symbol that Nusantara is built for everyone, without distinguishing race, religion or social class.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Tasrik, one of the cooks, stated that the spiced curry seasoning is the identity of Bubur Nusantara. The aroma of spices is what gives the porridge its distinctive character.

As the breaking-fast time approaches, community members begin arriving. Employees, construction workers, families and children sit side by side without barriers.

Not only Muslims, but non-Muslim members of the public also attend to enjoy the atmosphere of Ramadhan togetherness. A bowl of porridge becomes a simple bridge bringing together people of diverse backgrounds in one shared space.

Muslih, a housekeeping worker at the ASN Apartment Complex, said he always looked forward to breaking the fast at the State Mosque of IKN.

“It’s fun to break fast here. Many people come to enjoy the breaking-fast meal with diverse menu options. Bubur Nusantara tastes delicious, savoury and addictive,” he said.
