State Budget Deficit Surges to 135.7 Trillion Rupiah by February
The Ministry of Finance has recorded that Indonesia’s state budget (APBN) deficit reached 135.7 trillion rupiah by the end of February 2026, equivalent to 0.53 per cent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
“It remains within the framework of the 2026 APBN design,” said Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa during a press conference on the APBN KiTa period for February 2026 at his office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.
The deficit realisation was higher compared to the same period last year. In February 2025, the state budget deficit was recorded at 30.7 trillion rupiah, or approximately 0.13 per cent of GDP.
Purbaya explained that the government deliberately designed the pattern of state spending this year to be distributed more evenly throughout the year. With this design, government spending in the early part of the year is relatively larger compared to the previous year so that the impact of state spending on the economy can be more strongly felt.
The state budget deficit through February occurred because state revenues remained smaller than government spending realisation. By the end of February, state revenues were recorded at 358 trillion rupiah, whilst government spending reached 493.8 trillion rupiah.
State revenues comprised tax receipts of 245.1 trillion rupiah and customs and excise revenues of 44.9 trillion rupiah. Additionally, the government recorded non-tax state revenues (PNBP) of 68 trillion rupiah. There were no grant receipts during this period.
Government spending consisted of central government spending of 346.1 trillion rupiah and transfers to regions (TKD) of 147.7 trillion rupiah.
Central government spending of 346.1 trillion rupiah was divided into ministry and agency spending of 155 trillion rupiah and non-ministry and agency spending of 191 trillion rupiah.
