A number of staple food items show fluctuating prices at Gedhe Klaten Market, though supplies remain steady and secure heading into Eid 2026. The traditional market, inaugurated on 4 December 2023 by Indonesian House of Representatives Chair Puan Maharani, has seen increasing visitor numbers since the beginning of this week.

Monitoring at Gedhe Klaten Market on Monday, 9 March revealed that local medium-grade rice IR-64 remained stable at IDR 14,000 per kilogramme, whilst Bulog SPHP rice held steady at IDR 12,500 per kilogramme. Minyakita cooking oil remained stable at IDR 15,700 per litre, though bulk cooking oil increased from IDR 18,000 to IDR 19,000 per litre.

“We sell minyakita according to the maximum retail price (HET) set at IDR 15,700 per litre. Indeed, bulk oil did rise by IDR 500 per litre,” said Susana, a trader.

Several commodities have begun declining, particularly red chilli peppers. Trader prices for this item have dropped to IDR 82,000 per kilogramme, down IDR 8,000 from the previous week. Curly red chillies and large red chillies remained stable at IDR 30,000 per kilogramme, whilst green chilli peppers held at IDR 35,000 per kilogramme.

Gedhe Klaten Market Head Purwadi stated that staple commodity prices at the market remain fluctuative, though generally stable overall. “Approaching Eid 2026, supplies and availability of staple foods are secure. The public is urged to remain calm, as stock of staple foods is abundant at the market,” he said.

Bulog distributed SPHP rice to Gedhe Klaten Market twice: first on Monday, 23 February with 2,700 tonnes, and secondly on Friday, 27 February with 2,000 tonnes.
