Sri Purnomo Denies Tourism Funds Were Used for His Wife's Election Campaign
The continuation of the trial regarding the alleged corruption of the Sleman Regency Tourism Fund in 2020 was held at the Yogyakarta District Court today. The defendant, Sri Purnomo, denied that the Tourism Fund was used for political purposes in the lead-up to the 2020 Sleman election.
The Chairman of the Panel of Judges, Melinda Aritonang, initially raised the issue of alleged political motives in the distribution of the funds. This was based on testimony from a witness who stated that the disbursement of the funds coincided with the election period.
“So, what is your response regarding the witness’s statement that these tourism funds were also used for certain political purposes in the lead-up to the election?” asked the judge at the Yogyakarta District Court on Wednesday (February 25, 2026).
Sri Purnomo, who is also the former Regent of Sleman, refuted the accusation. “That is not true,” he replied.
Sri Purnomo stated that the disbursement of the funds did coincide with the election. However, he said that the disbursement schedule was determined by the central government.
“These tourism funds are purely from the central government to help restore the tourism sector’s economy, which was devastated by Covid. The fact that the timing coincided with the election is simply the schedule set by the ministry, not something we arranged,” he said.
The judge then asked whether Sri Purnomo was aware of any irregularities or deductions in the tourism funds at the lower levels.
“So, does the defendant maintain his statement that he was unaware of any irregularities or deductions in the funds at the lower levels?” asked the judge.
Sri Purnomo claimed that he was unaware. He said that the Regent’s function is a policy and administrative function at the higher level.
“The technical implementation, verification, and distribution are the full responsibility of the technical departments and the teams that have been formed,” replied Sri.
‘RA’ Code in Tourism Fund Proposal
Previously, it was reported that the misappropriation of the Sleman Regency Tourism Fund in 2020 resulted in state losses of IDR 10,952,457,030. It is known that the corruption case involving former Regent Sri Purnomo also implicates his wife, Kustini Sri Purnomo, and his son, Raudi Akmal. The tourism fund was allegedly used for campaign logistics to support the Kustini and Danang Maharsa pair in the 2020 Sleman election.
In a hearing at the Yogyakarta District Court on Thursday (December 18, 2025), the prosecutor charged Sri Purnomo with misappropriating IDR 10 billion from the Sleman tourism fund in 2020. Sri Purnomo and his son, Raudi Akmal, were allegedly involved in socializing the availability of the fund for the campaign logistics of Kustini.
Raudi, who is also a member of the Sleman DPRD for the 2019-2024 period, was allegedly involved in arranging the selection of recipients of the tourism fund. Raudi, who is also a member of the Kustini and Danang campaign team, was also allegedly given a special code in the proposal of prospective recipients of the fund, who were members of his mother’s campaign team.
“It was stated that Raudi Akmal collected the proposals and submitted them to the Sleman Tourism Office, but they did not come from villages that had received a Decree from the Regent or a Decree from the Sleman Regency Tourism Office. These proposals were marked with a code ‘RA’, which is a code for proposals originating from Raudi,” said the prosecutor while reading the indictment against Sri Purnomo.
The indictment also stated that Raudi asked the Head of Human Resources Development and Tourism Business at the Sleman Tourism Office, Nyoman Rai Savitri, not to socialize the tourism fund to villages in Sleman. Raudi was also allegedly involved in inviting Nyoman Rai to meet his father, Sri Purnomo, at the Sleman Regent’s residence regarding this matter.
The prosecutor said that in a meeting around October 2020, Sri Purnomo stated that the socialization of the tourism fund would be carried out by the children, or the Kustini-Danang campaign team. Finally, in November 2020, 167 proposals were collected and given the code ‘RA’.
After that, Raudi was also allegedly ordered to gather all the village heads from the Pandowoharjo and Trimulyo villages. In the meeting, it was announced that there would be assistance in the form of a 2020 tourism fund.
“Raudi will oversee the proposals. Raudi also said that the proposals should be submitted to Joko Triyono, and Raudi asked for assistance in winning the election for the Sleman Regent and Vice Regent pair number 3 (Kustini-Danang),” said the prosecutor.
After that, Sri Purnomo was allegedly issued a Regent’s Decree Number: 84/Kep. KDH/A/2020 concerning the Recipients of Tourism Funds in the form of Self-Management Funds for Community Groups in the Tourism Sector of Sleman Regency in the 2020 Fiscal Year. As a result of these actions, the state suffered losses of IDR 10,952,457,030 (IDR 10.9 billion).
The actions of Sri Purnomo were deemed to violate Article 2 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption, as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption, in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code.
Raudi’s Side Claims to Carry Out Duties as a Council Member
Regarding the prosecutor’s indictment, Raudi Akmal, through his legal counsel, stated that the entire process, from submission to implementation of the fund, was part of carrying out his duties as a member of the DPRD.
“The law clearly states that DPRD members are obliged to fight for the aspirations of their constituents and improve the welfare of the community,” said Raudi’s lawyer, Rizal, in a written statement received by detikJogja on Friday (December 19).
Rizal then explained that the duties of DPRD members, such as collecting and channeling the aspirations of the community, including the scheme for the fund, have been regulated in laws and regulations. “In the context of the tourism fund, collecting and conveying aspirations is part of carrying out the oath of office, not an act that violates the law,” he said.
He also spoke out about criticism regarding Raudi carrying out duties outside of his commission membership. He reiterated that his client is working within the framework of public service.
