SPPG Temporarily Closed After 200 Students Poisoned by MBG in Surabaya
Deputy Regional Coordinator for East Java of the National Food Agency (BGN), Teguh Bayu Wibowo, stated that this case is the first problematic incident involving SPPG in Surabaya since the MBG programme began. “From the information we have, we immediately came here to follow up and evaluate. We directed a pause in ongoing distribution as explained by Mrs Head of SPPG (Bubutan Tembok Dukuh),” Teguh told reporters at the SPPG kitchen, as reported by detikJatim on Tuesday (12/5/2026). Teguh added that there had been no similar cases in Surabaya previously. “Only one (SPPG that is problematic),” he said. Currently, operations at the SPPG Bubutan Tembok Dukuh kitchen have been temporarily halted while awaiting laboratory examination results for food samples. “We will evaluate first, follow up, and then keep this kitchen closed temporarily,” he explained. Previously, the students experienced symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and dizziness after eating the krengsengan beef dish produced by SPPG Bubutan Tembok Dukuh on Monday (11/5). Some students even had to be taken to community health centres and hospitals for medical treatment.
