Jakarta, VIVA – The Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) for Public Communication and Investigation, Nanik Sudaryati Deyang, has emphasised that the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meal Programme (MBG) involves micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as part of efforts to strengthen community economics.

One concrete example is being carried out by the Medan Marelan Terjun 2 Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG) in North Sumatra, which has partnered with street bread vendors.

“The Medan Marelan Terjun 2 SPPG involves MSMEs in the Free Nutritious Meal Programme to help strengthen local economics, such as street bread sellers,” said Nanik in Jakarta on Monday, 9 March.

Beyond involving small traders, the implementation of the MBG programme through SPPG also creates new employment opportunities and encourages participation from various business actors, ranging from farmers and livestock breeders to other MSME operators.

Consequently, Nanik stated, the benefits of this programme are not only felt by programme beneficiaries but also by local economic actors involved in the food supply chain. MSME participation in the MBG Programme has been established in government regulation.

“As noted in Presidential Regulation 115, issued in December 2025, it is stated that for SPPG raw materials, involvement of the Red and White Village Cooperatives, Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes), MSMEs, small traders, and farmers must be direct,” she explained.

Nanik assessed that the step taken by Medan Marelan Terjun 2 SPPG in engaging street bread vendors as suppliers represents an implementation of this policy.

“What Medan Marelan Terjun 2 SPPG is doing by bringing in bread vendors is an implementation of Presidential Regulation 115, whereby micro entrepreneurs and MSMEs are involved as suppliers,” she continued.

The BGN hopes that the involvement of local business actors in this government priority programme for national nutrition fulfilment can continue to be expanded, thereby delivering a dual impact: improving public nutritional quality whilst stimulating regional economies.
