S'porean to hang for wife's murder

SINGAPORE: A website designer, who recruited a 15-year-old boy at
a McDonald's restaurant in Singapore to kill his estranged wife,
was on Wednesday sentenced to death.

Anthony Ler, 34, was sentenced by a high court judge to die by
hanging after it was "proven beyond doubt" that he instigated his
wife's murder in May.

Ler, who separated from his wife three years ago, had offered
to pay the boy S$100,000 (US$54,000) in installments and had
trained him to kill using a kitchen knife and a bolster, the
court was told.

Annie Leong Wai Muen, a 30-year-old insurance agent and mother
of a four-year-old girl, died from multiple stab wounds after Ler
lured her out of her apartment on the pretext of signing some
documents.

The boy, who was also found guilty of carrying out the murder,
was ordered to be detained at a rehabilitation center until he is
old enough to be transferred to a prison. --AFP
