S'pore to study RP probe findings
SINGAPORE (Reuter): Singapore said yesterday it would study
the findings of a Philippine inquiry board that has demanded the
reopening of a double-murder case for which Filipina maid Flor
Contemplacion was hanged in Singapore.
"We have not received yet a copy of the committee's report nor
have we been informed by the Philippine government of the
committee's findings," a Foreign Ministry spokesman said.
"When we receive the committee's findings, we will study them.
The Singapore government will then give its considered response,"
he said.
The inquiry, which followed a passionate outcry in the
Philippines that severely strained relations with Singapore, said
Contemplacion could have been a victim of grave injustice.
The committee did not recommend Manila cut off ties with
Singapore, but it urged the Philippine government to demand a
joint re-investigation of the double murders for which
Contemplacion was executed.
