S'pore seeks UNSC seat
SINGAPORE (Reuter): Singapore has applied for a non-permanent
seat on the UN Security Council for the period 2001-2002, a
government statement said yesterday.
The candidature was formally announced by the Charge
d'Affaires of Singapore to the United Nations at a meeting of the
Asian Group in New York on May 19, it said.
"As a small state, Singapore hopes to bring a constructive and
useful perspective to the Security Council," the statement said.
