SINGAPORE (AFP): A survey conducted by the Port Authority of Singapore (PSA) has forecast 15-percent growth in container handling for 1994, a PSA publication said yesterday.
Singapore handled 9.05 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) last year, a 20-percent increase over the previous year and eight percent more than a previous forecast, the PSA said in the monthly Portview newsletter.
Shipping lines, in a survey conducted last November, predicted a 15-percent growth in the volume of containers they would be handling this year.
The PSA said that while the majority of the feeder operators predicted a growth of more than 18 percent, the main line operators were more conservative, forecasting growth of less than 10 percent.
The PSA said the actual throughput of main line operators usually showed higher growth.
