S'pore boy admits to raping maid

SINGAPORE (AFP): A 14-year-old Singaporean has admitted raping
his family's 15-year-old Indonesian maid after getting her drunk
on premium cognac, the Straits Times reported Saturday.

The boy admitted in a High Court hearing Friday he gave the
maid a cup of cognac to drink one night last January, which
knocked her out, the newspaper said.

He later sneaked into a bedroom where the maid was sleeping
with his five-year-old sister, stripped the maid of her
underwear, put on a condom taken from his parents' wardrobe, and
started raping her, the court was told.

When the maid awoke in pain, he put her clothes back on and
left the room. She reported the incident to the Indonesian
embassy and the Singapore police.

The boy said he was told by a previous lawyer to lie by
telling the court the maid had consented to have sex with him,
but he felt guilty and eventually confessed to the crime.

His present lawyer told the court that the boy, the eldest
child of fishmongers, was a well-behaved student who gave in to
pubescent sexual urges.

The judge, who called for a pre-sentence report on the boy,
asked state prosecutors to look into the previous lawyer's
behavior and "if necessary refer the matter to the Law Society
for the attempt to pervert the course of justice," the report
said.
