JAKARTA — Investment Minister and BKPM Head Rosan Roeslani stated that investment realisation in Special Economic Zones (KEK) surpassed the 2024 target, reaching Rp90.1 trillion against a target of Rp78.1 trillion.

"KEK realisation throughout 2024 was Rp90.1 trillion, exceeding the target set for 2024 of Rp78.1 trillion. So we surpassed the 2024 target," Rosan said at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday (22/7).

Positive achievements were also recorded in employment absorption. Rosan said KEK employment exceeded the 2024 target of 38,953 workers, reaching 47,747 people.

Rosan added that 72 new business entities entered the special economic zones between January and December 2024. Consequently, cumulative investment realisation from 2012 to 2024 in Special Economic Zones reached Rp263.4 trillion, with 403 business entities and employment absorption of 160,874 workers.

"These achievements demonstrate a very positive trend in the attractiveness and effectiveness of KEK as a strategic instrument in driving equitable development and national economic growth," he explained.

Data Accuracy

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the limited meeting with President Prabowo Subianto reported on KEK developments, including the contribution of investment realisation to Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

"Overall, we are at around 1.4% of GDP for realisation. We shall see what this year brings," Airlangga said.

This year, the government is targeting KEK investment realisation of Rp200 trillion.

During the meeting, President Prabowo issued several directives, including the optimisation of KEK to support economic growth.

"The discussion concerned optimising KEK investment performance in supporting economic growth and job creation," said Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia.

The President also gave specific instructions to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) to continuously improve the quality and accuracy of national data, including data from KEK.

"The President asked BPS to improve data accuracy," said BPS Head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti after attending the limited meeting.

She noted that the President emphasised the importance of data collection from KEK, given that the topic was the primary subject of discussion in the limited meeting.

"BPS has been asked to immediately collect data from all KEK. The President also instructed all KEK administrators to actively collaborate with BPS in the field data collection process," she added.
