SPDP Returned, Firli Bahuri's Camp Urges Police to Halt Case
The camp of former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chief Firli Bahuri has spoken out regarding the Jakarta High Prosecutor’s Office (Kejati DKI Jakarta) decision to return the Notice of Commencement of Investigation (SPDP) for the alleged extortion case to the Metro Jaya Regional Police. Firli Bahuri’s lawyer, Ian Iskandar, stated that the return of the SPDP serves as evidence that investigators have failed to meet the formal and material requirements demanded by the prosecutors. “Clearly, the SPDP has been returned to the Metro Jaya Police twice. This means that legally, the formal and material requirements have not been fulfilled,” Ian said when contacted on Friday (24/4). On that basis, Ian requested that the Metro Jaya Police halt the case and issue a Termination of Investigation Letter (SP3). “Therefore, the investigators’ obligation refers to Article 24 of Law No. 20 of 2025 on the Criminal Procedure Code, which is the SP3. SP3, insufficient evidence,” he said. Previously, the Kejati DKI Jakarta stated that it had returned the SPDP for the alleged extortion case with suspect Firli Bahuri. Head of the Legal Information Section (Kasipenkum) of Kejati DKI Jakarta, Dapot Dariarma, said the SPDP was returned because the investigators from the Metro Jaya Police had not fulfilled the prosecutors’ directives. “We returned the SPDP, not the case file again. We even returned the SPDP on 7 August 2025,” he told reporters on Friday (24/4). The Metro Jaya Police is known to have named Firli as a suspect in the extortion case against former Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo on 22 November 2023. In this case, the three-star retired Polri general is alleged to have violated Article 12 e or Article 12 B or Article 11 of the Corruption Eradication Law in conjunction with Article 65 of the Criminal Code, with a maximum penalty of life imprisonment. However, after a year as a suspect, there has been no significant progress in the investigation process conducted by the Corruption Crime Subdirectorate of the Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Metro Jaya Police. The investigators have sent the case file to the Kejati DKI Jakarta twice, and it has been returned twice because it was deemed incomplete.
