Soybean Prices in Jakarta Rise to Rp20,000 per Kilogram
Soybean prices are reported to have risen in Jakarta, starting from Rp10,500 to Rp11,000 per kilogram at the level of tofu and tempeh producers, up from the previous Rp8,000 to Rp8,600 per kg.
The Head of the Jakarta Food Security, Maritime, and Agriculture Office (KPKP), Hasudungan Sidabalok, urged the public to adjust their food consumption needs.
“I urge the public to adjust their food consumption needs with other food commodities that have balanced nutritional value at more affordable prices,” he said in Jakarta on Thursday (9/4).
He explained that the soybean price increase varies. Soybean prices at traditional market traders are Rp15,000 - Rp20,000 per kg. Previously Rp13,000 to Rp18,000 per kg.
The rising soybean prices are affecting traders who use soybeans as raw materials, for example, tempeh or tempeh chips. A tempeh chip entrepreneur in South Jakarta raised the price of his product.
“Previously Rp65,000 per kilogram (kg), now up to Rp70,000 per kg,” said tempeh chip entrepreneur Joko Asori, 57, in Kramat Pela, Jakarta, on Thursday.
With the current soybean prices, Joko continued, the price of one pack of tempeh chips weighing 250 grams (gr) has been adjusted to Rp19,000.
Since February 2026, he said soybean prices have risen to Rp930,000 per quintal. This trend continued until April 2026, when soybean prices reached Rp1,100,000.
Traders ultimately have to adjust the weight of their products with production costs to avoid significant price increases for buyers.
