The Communication and Informatics Office (Diskominfo) of the South Tangerang City Government has partnered with the Gerakan Pejuang Shubuh (GPS) Tangsel to launch the GPS Digital Academy & Innovation Center. This programme is designed as a free technology training platform for mosque youth, aiming to expand an inclusive smart city ecosystem from the grassroots level. In this academy, participants will be equipped with various cutting-edge digital skills, ranging from digital content creation and coding classes to an introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the utilisation of coworking spaces. Head of Diskominfo Tangsel, TB Asep Nurdin, affirmed that the local government is fully committed to facilitating network infrastructure to support the entire learning process. “Fast internet access and technical support will be ensured to flow to the training centres so that coding classes and AI introductions can run without technical glitches. For us at Diskominfo, the mosque is a very strategic social hub,” Asep stated on Thursday (25/6/2026). Responding to the high enthusiasm for registration via digital platforms, Diskominfo is encouraging a curriculum with clear Key Performance Indicators (KPI) that aligns with the current needs of the digital industry. The government hopes that the output from this training will not merely be ceremonial. Digital content creator graduates are expected to produce positive public narratives, while coding and AI class participants are expected to contribute to solving local problems in their neighbourhoods. Chairman of GPS Tangsel, Ustaz Muhammad Sartono, added that this transformation aims to restore the function of the mosque as a centre of civilisation and modern human resource development. “The mosque is not just a centre for worship. Through this programme, we want to produce a generation of mosque-goers who are tech-savvy, productive, and capable of providing broader benefits to society,” Sartono said. Diskominfo Tangsel is also opening long-term opportunities for the academy’s top graduates. They will be directed to participate in developing innovative ideas that can be directly synergised with various public service applications owned by the Tangsel City Government to reduce the digital divide. Regarding the grand launching agenda targeted to take place within the next two weeks, Diskominfo has given a positive signal about the plan for the Mayor of South Tangerang, Benyamin Davnie, to inaugurate the programme in person. “Through this partnership, the Tangsel City Government hopes that the GPS Digital Academy & Innovation Center can become a pilot project that can be replicated by other community organisations. Digital transformation in Tangsel is now directed to be more grounded, moving from the mosque towards smarter city integration,” Asep concluded.
