South Sumatra Police Solve 7 Robbery Cases, Reassure Public of Safety
South Sumatra Police have uncovered seven cases of robbery throughout May 2026, reinforcing their commitment to ensuring public safety. Senior Commissioner Nandang Mu’min Wijaya, the Police Public Relations Chief, stated in a written statement on Monday (25 May 2026), ‘We will take strict action against any criminal activity that disrupts public security and comfort. This resolution demonstrates South Sumatra Police’s concrete commitment to maintaining stability and providing maximum protection to the community.’
The cases were resolved through coordinated efforts by the South Sumatra Police Criminal Investigation Directorate alongside local police stations in Palembang City, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, Muara Enim, Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir (PALI), Lahat, Lubuk Linggau City, and Musi Rawas Utara Regency. The operations began with public reports of robbery victims, followed by intensive investigations, mapping of suspect networks, and pursuit of perpetrators often armed with bladed weapons.
Throughout May 2026, police detained suspects from various locations, including D and R in Palembang City; M in Ogan Komering Ilir; R, W, and E in Muara Enim; G (25) in PALI; V (20) in Lahat; recidivist robbery specialist C (28) in Lubuk Linggau; and F (35) in Musi Rawas Utara. Seized evidence included stolen two- and four-wheeled vehicles, celurit, knives, handcuffs, and vehicle registration documents. The total value of seized items is estimated at hundreds of millions of rupiah.
Suspects face charges under Article 365 of the Criminal Code for robbery with violence, while those in Musi Rawas Utara were charged with extortion. Nandang urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities. ‘We call on all citizens to collaborate with the police in maintaining community safety. Immediately utilise the 110 emergency hotline for assistance or to report crimes so that officers can respond promptly,’ he said.
