Palembang – The South Sumatra Regional Police Force (Polda Sumsel) launched the National Police’s Affordable Food Movement simultaneously across 47 distribution points throughout all regencies and municipalities in South Sumatra in preparation for Eid al-Fitr 1447 H.

Through this programme, Polda Sumsel, together with Perum Bulog and local government, distributed 135.5 tonnes of rice to approximately 20,325 residents as part of efforts to maintain stable food prices and strengthen national food security.

The Regional Police Chief of South Sumatra, Inspector General Sandi Nugroho, directly led the centralised Affordable Food Movement activity, which took place at the Sukamaju Bulog Warehouse yard, Sako District, Palembang City, on Friday morning.

The event was attended by the Governor of South Sumatra Herman Deru, members of the Regional Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), representatives from Kodam II/Sriwijaya, the South Sumatra High Prosecutor’s Office, and leaders of Perum Bulog’s South Sumatra-Bangka Belitung region.

Sandi emphasised that food security is a strategic national issue that directly relates to public safety and security stability. According to him, affordable pricing of basic commodities ahead of the Eid al-Fitr celebration is an important factor in maintaining a conducive public order and security situation.

“Food security not only concerns the availability of basic commodities, but also relates to social stability of the community. Therefore, the National Police are present to ensure that the public can obtain food requirements at affordable prices,” said Sandi.

The Affordable Food Movement programme is part of the National Police’s support for the government’s priority programmes in maintaining stable supply and pricing of national food products.

Sandi explained that in the 2026 implementation, Polda Sumsel distributed rice through 47 distribution points spread across all regencies and municipalities in the region. At the centralised location of Sukamaju Bulog Warehouse in Palembang, Perum Bulog provided approximately 10 tonnes of rice, packaged in tens of thousands of portions for the public.

Each rice purchase also came with bonus household essentials such as cooking oil, sugar, or soy sauce as additional support for residents.

Meanwhile, the Regional Head of Perum Bulog for South Sumatra-Bangka Belitung, Mersi Windrayani, reported that Sukamaju Bulog Warehouse has a storage capacity of approximately 21,000 tonnes of rice. Currently, available rice stocks reach approximately 16,000 tonnes, along with 259,560 litres of cooking oil.

Bulog is also carrying out a task from the National Food Agency to distribute food assistance to 968,499 beneficiaries in South Sumatra with a total allocation of approximately 19,369 tonnes of rice for the February to March 2026 period.
