South Sumatra Police Chief Visits NU and Muhammadiyah Clerics to Strengthen Public Order Collaboration
South Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Sandi Nugroho conducted visits to clerics from Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah. The visits were aimed at strengthening communication with religious scholars and leaders of religious organisations in South Sumatra as part of efforts to maintain public security and order.
According to a written statement, the visit to the South Sumatra Regional Leadership of Muhammadiyah (PWM) took place at the PWM South Sumatra office in Palembang on Thursday (19 February 2026). Inspector General Sandi was accompanied by several senior South Sumatra Police officials, including Human Resources Bureau Chief Commissioner Sudrajad Hariwibowo, Intelligence and Security Director Commissioner Tony Budhi Susetyo, General Criminal Investigation Director Commissioner Johannes Bangun, Special Criminal Investigation Director Commissioner Doni Satrya Sembiring, Narcotics Director Commissioner Yulian Perdana, Traffic Director Commissioner Maesa Soegriwo, Community Development Director Commissioner Hari Purnomo, Director for the Protection of Women, Children and Special Groups Commissioner Andes Purwanti, and Mobile Brigade Commander Commissioner Susnadi.
During the meeting, Inspector General Sandi emphasised the importance of collaboration between the police and Muhammadiyah. He expressed hope that Muhammadiyah could serve as a strategic partner in maintaining security stability and supporting development in South Sumatra.
“We recognise that we cannot work alone. Police duties can only be carried out through cooperation and synergy with all elements of society,” said Inspector General Sandi.
Previously, on Sunday (15 February), Inspector General Sandi also conducted a visit to the Chairman of the South Sumatra NU Regional Board (PWNU), KH Hendra Zainuddin, at the Aulia Cendikia Islamic Boarding School Campus C, Sukarami District, Palembang. During the visit, the Police Chief was accompanied by senior officials and personnel of the South Sumatra Police.
Inspector General Sandi said the visit to the Islamic boarding school environment was part of efforts to strengthen communication and coordination between the police and religious leaders. Furthermore, the visit represented Inspector General Sandi’s commitment to reinforcing synergy in maintaining public security and order in South Sumatra.
