The Police Chief of South Sumatra (Sumsel) Inspector General Sandi Nugroho has emphasised that the honour of the police profession can be achieved through genuine and consistent work. He encouraged all ranks to maintain the reputation of the police force through public service, rather than through image management.

This was stated by Sandi whilst leading a morning parade of South Sumatra Police personnel at the Sumsel Police Headquarters parade ground on Monday (9 March 2026). The event was attended by the Deputy Police Chief of Sumsel, the Internal Affairs Inspector, senior officials, and all personnel of the South Sumatra Police.

In his remarks, the Police Chief expressed appreciation to all ranks for the dedication and cooperation they had demonstrated, particularly in supporting various institutional activities that have proceeded safely, orderly, and smoothly. According to him, these achievements are evidence that the solidarity and readiness of South Sumatra Police personnel remain steadfast.

Sandi warned that success in tasks should not lead all ranks to become complacent. Matters that are already functioning well, he said, must be maintained, whilst existing shortcomings need to be addressed collectively through cooperation, collaboration, and a culture of mutual reminders.

“What is already good should be maintained and preserved, whilst what is not yet good let us improve together. Without good cooperation and collaboration, tasks will not run optimally,” said Sandi.

Sandi emphasised that the police task is not merely daily routine. According to him, every job carried out with dedication is part of the effort to uphold the honour and glorify the police profession in society.

“The work we do every day is not only to complete daily tasks, but is part of glorifying the police profession. If not us who glorify this profession, then who,” he said.

The Police Chief of Sumsel also reminded officers that good work, discipline, and responsibility should not be viewed as image management. Rather, it is a form of dedication and the moral responsibility of every police member in safeguarding the institutional trust and serving the public.

According to Sandi, the police profession will remain honourable if maintained with integrity, sincerity, and consistent tangible work. He urged all personnel, both police members and civil service staff at the South Sumatra Police Headquarters, to work with heart and make dedication the primary foundation in every task execution.

Beyond emphasising the importance of work ethic and integrity, the Police Chief highlighted the importance of public accountability in the age of open information. He stated that police work carried out daily must be demonstrable and well communicated to the public, including through official digital platforms.

“When the public asks whether police truly work every day, then we must be able to show proof. Police working well must not only exist in the real world, but also must be able to socialise these good works in digital spaces,” he asserted.

He considers transparency in demonstrating tangible work as an important part in building and maintaining public trust in the police force. The Police Chief urged all ranks not only to work well in the field, but also to be able to present evidence of this dedication in a measured and responsible manner in the public sphere.
