South Sumatra Regional Police Chief Inspector General Sandi Nugroho led the conduct of urine tests at the South Sumatra Regional Police headquarters (Polda Sumsel). Sandi affirmed there would be no tolerance for narcotics use.

The urine tests were undertaken by Sandi, the Deputy Regional Police Chief of South Sumatra, senior officials of Polda Sumsel, and all personnel at the second floor of the Polda Sumsel Presisi Building on Monday (23/2/2026). He said the measure was a swift follow-up to directives from Deputy National Police Chief Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo, issued via a video conference on the Analysis and Evaluation of Security and Public Order.

The screening began with Sandi, the Deputy Regional Police Chief, and senior Polda Sumsel officials. Subsequently, urine tests were carried out comprehensively across all remaining personnel.

“With this urine screening programme, Polda Sumsel is committed to implementing a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics abuse by members of the Indonesian National Police,” said South Sumatra Polda Head of Public Relations Commissioner Nandang Mu’min Wijaya.

He stated that internal law enforcement within the police force is the primary foundation before enforcing the law upon the public. He said enforcement would be carried out without discrimination.

“Every violation will be processed through disciplinary, ethical code, or criminal proceedings in accordance with prevailing regulations, without exception,” he said.

The urine tests were conducted under strict supervision by the Professional and Security Division (Propam) of Polda Sumsel. He said all medical procedures were carried out in accordance with established standards to prevent any manipulation.
