Palembang – Polda Sumatera Selatan (Sumsel) through its Professional and Security Division (Bidpropam) is strengthening internal supervision by conducting a thorough check of service firearms. The activity targets all personnel and work units (satker) up to the level of district police (Polres)/city police (Polresta) in its jurisdiction.

The audit, centred at the Firearms Warehouse of the Polda Sumsel Work Unit, was directly led by the Head of Bidpropam, Raden Azis Safiri. The activity was carried out based on the South Sumatra Police Chief’s Order Number Sprin/564/IV/HUK.6.6./2026 as a concrete step in strengthening inherent supervision (Waskat) and maintaining accountability in the use of service firearms.

A joint team from the Sub-Provost of Bidpropam along with Logistics personnel conducted a comprehensive examination of thousands of firearms, both short-barrelled and long-barrelled.

The inspection covered the physical condition of the weapons, cleanliness, and mechanical function to ensure all equipment is in operational readiness and fit for use in police duties.

The checks were carried out on various strategic work units, including the Traffic Directorate (Ditlantas), Mobile Brigade Security Directorate (Ditpamobvit), Criminal Intelligence Directorate (Ditintelkam), Special Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimsus), Narcotics Investigation Directorate (Ditresnarkoba), Water and Air Police Directorate (Ditpolair), Traffic Security Directorate (Ditsamapta), as well as district police units such as Palembang City Police Headquarters (Polrestabes Palembang), Ogan Ilir Police (Polres Ogan Ilir), Banyuasin Police (Polres Banyuasin), and Prabumulih Police (Polres Prabumulih).

Overall, the audit results showed that the majority of service firearms are managed well and in accordance with procedures. This reflects a high level of discipline among personnel in the use and management of state assets.

In addition to technical aspects, Bidpropam also focused on checking the administration of firearm use. Officers verified the validity period of the firearm borrowing and usage permit cards (IPPSA) held by personnel.

This step aims to ensure that every personnel handling firearms meets the administrative, psychological, and competency requirements set by the institution.

This administrative regulation is an important instrument in preventing potential abuse of authority while ensuring all state assets are recorded transparently and accountably.

The Head of Public Relations of South Sumatra Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Pol Nandang Mu’min Wijaya, emphasised that this activity is part of the consistent internal supervision mechanism.

“This activity is a real commitment by Polda Sumsel in ensuring every service firearm is used responsibly in accordance with procedures. We do not tolerate any violations,” he asserted.
