Palembang - South Sumatra Governor Herman Deru has confirmed that toll road infrastructure in the Kayuagung area will be ready to serve the 2026 Eid holiday homecoming following completion of technical work on peatland with reinforcement involving 3,000 deep pilings extending 29 metres.

Governor Deru stated in Palembang on Tuesday that the improvements were undertaken to address public complaints regarding the previously undulating road conditions on the toll section.

Pile foundation technology reaching hard ground has been deployed to ensure the strategic route is suitable for travel and provides comfort for homebound travellers, expected to peak around 18 April 2026.

“The road issues at Kayuagung that have been complained about are now resolved with construction using 3,000 deep pilings at 29 metres depth. This was necessary because the land conditions consist of peat dome, so the pilings had to reach that depth to touch hard ground,” he stated.

The toll rate discount policy applies automatically without additional requirements, meaning road users do not need to follow special procedures to obtain the tariff reduction.

“This discount applies automatically without needing additional requirements. We have taken this step in response to public aspirations for toll tariff reductions during the homecoming period,” he said.

To maintain smooth traffic flow, the South Sumatra Provincial Government has also strengthened coordination with police to anticipate the surge in vehicles during the homecoming period. Average daily traffic flow at peak homecoming times is estimated to reach approximately 21,000 vehicles.

With the road now reinforced and no longer undulating, homebound travellers are expected to be able to make their journeys more safely and comfortably, both when heading to their hometowns and when returning, Deru said.
