Makassar (ANTARA) — Civil servants within the South Sulawesi (Sulsel) provincial government are expressing strong optimism that the Ramadan Leadership Camp, held at the Sudiang Hajj Dormitory in Makassar from 22 to 28 February 2026, will strengthen the character of government officials.

The Head of the South Sulawesi Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM), Muhammad Jufri, said in a statement in Makassar on Sunday that 735 structural officials, 100 school principals, and 16 directors of regionally owned enterprises (BUMD) are participating in the camp.

Participants hail from various regional apparatus organisations (OPD) within the provincial government.

He explained that the camp's programme focuses on four key areas: regional financial management, goods and services procurement, oversight, and the strengthening of character and leadership ethics.

To ensure discipline and orderliness throughout the event, the provincial government has deployed the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP).

"Our task is to ensure the programme runs smoothly — that participants do not leave the venue during the event, that discipline is maintained, and that rest periods are properly utilised," said Andi Arwin.

From the participants' perspective, the Head of the South Sulawesi Population and Civil Registration Agency (Disdukcapil), Iqbal Suhaeb, described the Ramadan Leadership Camp as a new breakthrough in civil servant development.

"This is the first time such an activity has been held by the South Sulawesi provincial government. During Ramadan, in addition to deepening religious study, participants also receive reinforcement in fundamental subjects such as finance, procurement, and asset management," he said.

Similar enthusiasm was expressed by Syamrina Maulana Aris, Head of the General Staffing Subdivision at BPSDM South Sulawesi, who described the event as a space for cultivating well-rounded leaders.

Meanwhile, Akhirudin, Head of the Social Security Section at the South Sulawesi Manpower and Transmigration Agency (Disnakertrans), expressed hope that the programme would have a positive impact on bureaucratic competence and the spiritual development of civil servants.

"To be honest, I have currently only memorised 20 short surahs, and my focus is on memorising the 30th juz," he said.

For the education sector, Sigit Hendra Waskita, Principal of SMKN 9 Makassar, said the material presented was highly relevant to the leadership challenges faced by school heads.

"Looking at the programme schedule, the content is very practical — from financial governance and leadership management to the strengthening of moral character as a foundation for leading educational institutions," Sigit said.
