South Korean President: Indonesia is a Key Partner in Energy Resilience and Global Stability
Jakarta (ANTARA) - South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has emphasised that Indonesia is a key partner for his country in energy resilience and global stability, playing a strategic role in maintaining energy supplies amid evolving global dynamics.
“We are very confident in knowing that Indonesia provides LNG and coal very stably to Korea,” said President Lee during a bilateral meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the South Korean Presidential Blue House on Wednesday, quoted from the Press, Media, and Information Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat.
President Lee stated that changes in the global order, including tensions in various regions such as the Middle East, demand strengthened economic cooperation between the two countries.
“I believe we need to enhance economic cooperation between our two countries to minimise the negative impacts of such global issues,” he continued.
He also stressed that the shared values between Indonesia and South Korea, such as democracy, free trade, and a rules-based order, form a strong foundation for facing global crises.
“Cooperation between our two countries, which share values of democracy, free trade, and a rules-based order, will shine brightly, especially in crisis situations like the one we are experiencing now,” he stated.
In the meeting, President Lee expressed his hope for open and constructive exchanges of views, both regarding bilateral relations and the contributions of the two countries at the global level.
“I look forward to an honest exchange of opinions with President Prabowo, not only about advancing our bilateral relations but also about various ways to contribute together to the international community as responsible middle powers,” he said.
President Lee also conveyed his respect for President Prabowo’s leadership and offered condolences for the fallen Indonesian soldiers in the peacekeeping mission in Lebanon.
“I wish to extend my deepest condolences to the Indonesian military members participating in the peacekeeping operation in Lebanon who have passed away due to an explosion,” he remarked.
