South Kalimantan Provincial Government Facilitates Construction of Lambung Mangkurat Military Regional Command
Banjarmasin (ANTARA) - The South Kalimantan Provincial Government is facilitating the construction of the Lambung Mangkurat Military Regional Command (Kodam) headquarters in the provincial office area of Banjarbaru to strengthen defence and security in the ‘Bumi Antasari’ region.
South Kalimantan Governor H. Muhidin, in Banjarbaru on Wednesday, stated that this construction serves as a new historic milestone for the region, while also symbolising the strengthening of the state’s presence in the context of improving the defence system in the area.
“So far, South Kalimantan has still been under the control of a military region centred outside the province. With the presence of the Kodam, the effectiveness of territorial control and cross-sectoral coordination will increase significantly,” he said.
He mentioned that his side is providing full support for the construction, both in terms of policy, facilities, and cross-sectoral synergy.
He is confident that this development will have broad impacts, not only on defence but also on the social and economic aspects of the community.
“The presence of the Kodam will shorten the span of control, increase coordination effectiveness, and accelerate responses to various situations in the region,” he said.
According to him, Indonesia’s defence strength does not only rely on weaponry systems but also on the people’s strength, so the fighting spirit of the community, including in South Kalimantan, is an important factor that makes Indonesia respected.
“We in the TNI-Polri are only continuing the people’s struggle spirit that has been passed down by our predecessors. With the presence of this Kodam, it is hoped that synergy with the local government will be even stronger in supporting development,” he added.
Collaborative Funding
Head of the South Kalimantan Public Works and Public Housing Department, M. Yasin Toyib, explained that the construction of the Lambung Mangkurat Kodam requires a budget of around Rp280 billion.
“Of the total budget, around Rp140 billion comes from the Ministry of Defence, while the remainder is a joint contribution from the Provincial Government and regencies/cities,” he clarified.
He added that the Kodam complex will be built on a 10-hectare plot of land with a main five-storey building equipped with facilities according to the master plan.
The construction is targeted to be completed in 2027, with plans for the operational inauguration of the Kodam in 2027–2028.
