South Kalimantan Police Uncover Smuggling of 43.8 kg of Methamphetamine from Malaysia
Banjarbaru (ANTARA) - The Narcotics Investigation Directorate of the South Kalimantan Regional Police has successfully uncovered a smuggling case involving 43,831.22 grams or 43.8 kilograms of methamphetamine originating from Malaysia, carried out by an inter-provincial network affiliated with drug lord Fredy Pratama.
“The methamphetamine was wrapped in 44 large packages carried by two couriers with initials AG from Jakarta and RD from Lampung,” said the Head of South Kalimantan Police, Inspector General of Police Rosyanto Yudha Hermawan, during the release of the evidence at the South Kalimantan Police Headquarters in Banjarbaru on Monday.
Both suspects were arrested shortly after arriving at the Wisata Hotel in Banjarmasin on Wednesday (8/4), carrying two large suitcases containing the narcotics.
Previously, the police received information from the public regarding indications of large-scale narcotics smuggling into Banjarmasin.
Following up on that information, the Director of Narcotics Investigations of the South Kalimantan Police, Commissioner of Police Baktiar Joko Mujiono, immediately ordered a team led by the Head of Sub-Directorate 3 of the Narcotics Investigation Directorate, AKBP Ade Harri Sistriawan, to conduct an investigation.
As a result, the suspected courier carrying the methamphetamine was tracked to a hotel, and an arrest was immediately carried out.
The Police Chief emphasised that the war against drug circulation continues as an effort to save the nation’s generation.
“In addition to arresting dealer networks, we must also strive for prevention, and this is a shared responsibility,” he stressed.
The Chairman of the South Kalimantan Provincial DPRD, Supian HK, also appreciated the hard work of the South Kalimantan Police in eradicating drugs.
“Imagine if this much drugs circulated; it would be very damaging to society. As representatives of the people, we are very grateful; may there be no more drugs in our Banua,” he said.
