South Kalimantan DPRD Appreciates Development of Genjah Coconut on 1,100 Hectares
We hope that the development of genjah coconuts will improve the economy as well as the income levels and welfare of South Kalimantan residents.
Banjarmasin (ANTARA) - Deputy Chair of Commission II of the South Kalimantan Provincial DPRD, H Suripno Sumas, has expressed appreciation for the plan to develop genjah coconuts in the province, covering 1,100 hectares by 2026.
“We hope that with the development of genjah coconuts, the economy as well as the income levels and welfare of South Kalimantan residents will improve,” he stated in Banjarmasin on Wednesday.
He explained that, based on planning from the Directorate General of Plantations of the Republic of Indonesia’s Ministry of Agriculture (Ditjen Kementan RI), South Kalimantan will receive an allocation of 1,100 hectares for genjah coconut development in 2026.
“The plan covers two regencies, namely Barito Kuala and Tanah Bumbu,” he elaborated.
He assessed that genjah coconuts have high economic value and should be developed to support the economy of the local population in the two regions in the future.
“For example, the productivity level of genjah coconuts has a good selling price and a broad market share,” he said.
As is known, he added, the development of genjah coconuts has been underway in South Kalimantan since 2020 through demonstration plots in Batang Kulur Village - Kandangan in Hulu Sungai Selatan Regency (HSS).
“Each genjah coconut farmer will receive assistance for making planting holes, seedlings, and fertilisation,” Suripno Sumas concluded.
