South Jakarta's Lenteng Agung Road Remains Severely Congested a Day After Collapse
JAKARTA - A day after the road surface on Jalan Raya Lenteng Agung in South Jakarta collapsed, severe traffic congestion still persisted at the site on Saturday, 30 May 2026. Vehicle queues stretched approximately one kilometre towards Depok due to the narrowed road at the drainage repair area. Observations at the site around 8:30 AM WIB showed motorcycles and cars still delayed at the repair project point, which has been causing traffic disruptions since Friday, 29 May 2026. At several points, the collapsed road sections are covered with steel plates as temporary lanes. This forces vehicles to slow down significantly when passing, leading to persistent long queues. DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) officers remain on site to manage traffic flow using a stop-go system. Traffic management measures are in place due to reduced road width from ongoing excavation work. A Dishub officer stated that traffic management continues to allow vehicles to pass, albeit alternately. “Traffic management remains as before, but we are ensuring vehicles can still pass, though they must take turns due to the narrowed lanes,” they said when approached at the site on Saturday. Meanwhile, the repair project staff stated that main works are conducted overnight to reduce disruption to daytime traffic. “Repairs began last night. Main works will continue overnight to avoid disrupting daytime traffic flow,” they said. Previously, a large section of the road collapsed on Friday morning, causing prolonged traffic jams in the area. The asphalt had subsided, exposing the soil beneath, with water from surrounding drainage channels pooling around the site.
