South Jakarta Social Services Secure 16 Welfare Service Beneficiaries at Start of Ramadan
Jakarta — The South Jakarta Administrative City Social Services (Sudinsos) has secured 16 individuals in need of welfare services during the early period of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah.
“During Ramadan, we are intensifying surveillance and outreach to those in need of welfare services,” said Head of South Jakarta Sudinsos Bernard Tambunan when contacted in Jakarta on Monday.
He stated that based on data compiled from outreach efforts conducted between 19 and 28 February 2026, a total of 16 individuals were secured by field officers.
In the report, it was noted that the outreach efforts constitute a routine measure to maintain public order whilst providing social protection for residents in need.
“Up to the 10th day of monitoring implementation during this Ramadan period, we are ensuring that they receive appropriate handling in accordance with applicable social rehabilitation provisions,” said Bernard.
Of the 16 individuals secured, vagrants and beggars dominated the outreach results, with each category comprising five individuals. Additionally, officers also secured three individuals in the abandoned persons category, one person with mental disability, one elderly abandoned person, and one individual in the non-PPKS category.
“Data shows that the peak of outreach occurred on 20 February 2026, when officers successfully secured 11 individuals in a single day operation,” Bernard revealed.
When compared with last year’s Ramadan, he stated, the figure remains far below the 114 individuals recorded in March 2025.
Bernard further stated that those secured are registered and directed to social care facilities or provided with guidance according to their individual conditions and requirements to ensure they do not return to the streets.
This measure is expected to provide comfort to residents observing the fasting period, whilst serving as part of the local government’s efforts to address welfare problems in South Jakarta.
