Various regions across Indonesia are implementing affordable food and basic provisions programmes ahead of Eid al-Fitr as an effort to maintain price stability whilst assisting the public in meeting essential needs. This initiative is being undertaken by regional governments in collaboration with the business sector to combat inflation and ensure the availability of foodstuffs remains affordable for the population.

In Jakarta, the South Jakarta Municipal Government, together with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Jakarta chapter, launched an affordable foodstuff programme for 3,000 residents in Tebet District and Kebayoran Lama District.

South Jakarta Mayor Muhammad Anwar stated that the programme represents a collaboration between government, the business world, and communities to help meet basic needs ahead of the Eid celebrations.

“I extend my appreciation and gratitude to Kadin DKI Jakarta, which is greatly concerned with sharing with the community members in need of basic provisions as we welcome this festive season,” Anwar said whilst opening the affordable foodstuff activity in Jakarta.

In this programme, a total of 3,000 food packages were provided, with 1,500 packages allocated to each district. The aid recipients are low-income residents and individual contract workers (PJLP) at the village level who had been previously registered.

Head of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Jakarta chapter Diana Dewi explained that food packages, which typically cost approximately 190,000 rupiah, could be purchased by the public for just 100,000 rupiah. The packages contain various essential provisions such as meat, potatoes, wheat flour, cooking oil, and rice.

According to Diana, similar activities will continue to be conducted regularly, particularly ahead of major religious holidays, to ensure the stability of basic provisions prices and enable the public to obtain goods at more affordable rates.

For residents, the programme provides tangible benefits. One such case is Muhammad Said, a Public Infrastructure and Facilities Management officer (PPSU) at Pondok Pinang Village, who expressed his gratitude for the affordable foodstuff package.

“Praise be to God, at that price it becomes lighter on the pocket. It is affordable for daily necessities,” he said when encountered during the affordable foodstuff activity at the Kebayoran Lama District Office.

By paying 100,000 rupiah, Said obtained a basic provisions package containing meat, potatoes, wheat flour, and two kilograms of rice. He acknowledged that the assistance helped his family considerably, particularly since he has not returned to his hometown for Eid celebrations over the past four years as he has had to prioritise his children’s education expenses.
