Jakarta — The South Jakarta Civil Police (Satpol PP) apprehended one family of cart dwellers in the Tebet area during an enforcement operation targeting persons requiring social welfare assistance (PPKS).

“The family was detained when officers conducted outreach operations on Jalan Tebet Barat Raya on Friday (6 March) approaching the time for breaking the fast,” said Nanto Dwi Subekti, Head of the South Jakarta Civil Police, when confirmed in Jakarta on Monday.

Nanto stated that according to data collection, the PPKS apprehended was a single family with a registered address in Cilodong, Depok. The family consisted of YS (43) as the mother, E (75) as the father, and their two children, MAR (12) and MAA (5).

Based on officers’ data collection, they were registered at Jalan Revolusi, Sukamaju Village, Cilodong District, Depok City. Following outreach, they were immediately transported using a South Jakarta Social Services Sub-office vehicle to a social welfare facility for further assistance.

In addition to operations on Jalan Tebet Barat Raya, officers also swept several other roads in the Tebet area, including Jalan Dr Prof Soepomo, Jalan MT Haryono, Jalan Tebet Timur Raya, Jalan KH Abdullah Syafei, and Jalan Dr Saharjo. During the operation, officers also secured four cart units and belongings belonging to the PPKS, which were subsequently taken to the South Jakarta Civil Police warehouse.

Nanto stated that PPKS enforcement operations are conducted routinely in conjunction with the Social Services Sub-office to create order and public comfort, particularly during Ramadan. “The Civil Police together with the Social Services Sub-office continue enforcement operations to create public comfort during the holy month of Ramadan,” he said.

According to Nanto, this activity is also a follow-up to the Jakarta Governor’s directive to regulate PPKS, including cart dwellers who frequently appear approaching Ramadan until Eid al-Fitr. “This is part of efforts to clean up Jakarta from the proliferation of PPKS, such as cart dwellers whose numbers typically increase during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr,” he stated.
