Jakarta — The South Jakarta City Administration has conducted inspections at traditional and modern markets ahead of Eid al-Fitr.

“We are conducting price monitoring of strategic basic food commodities, which has been carried out since the beginning of Ramadan on 18 February 2026 until the Eid al-Fitr celebration on 17 March 2026,” said South Jakarta City Mayor Muhammad Anwar when confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He stated that the South Jakarta City Administration, through the Sub-Agency for Food Security, Maritime Affairs and Agriculture (KPKP), has inspected 15 traditional markets and 10 supermarkets.

To date, food prices remain stable despite increases in several commodities, including red chillies.

“Some prices may have increased, such as curly chillies, but the increases remain affordable,” said Anwar.

In the price supervision ahead of Eid in South Jakarta, red bird’s eye chilli prices were found to have increased to IDR110,000 per kilogramme, up from previously IDR100,000 per kg.

“Almost all prices experienced increases at the beginning of the fasting period, such as rice, especially rice, meat, and eggs. But as of yesterday, those prices have started to decline again, although still above the prices at the beginning of the fasting period,” said Ridho.

Nevertheless, he assured that average food prices remain relatively stable.

The price surveillance activity for food commodities from livestock, fisheries, and agriculture is also expected to ensure public safety in consuming all these foodstuffs.

“It is hoped that the public can consume these products comfortably and be protected from diseases caused by dangerous chemicals, such as borax, formalin, or dyes,” said Ridho.
