Sorong Indigenous Leaders and PSI Discuss Collaboration for Southwest Papua Development

Indigenous leaders from Sorong in Southwest Papua engaged in discussions with the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) to promote the fulfilment of community needs and foster collaboration in formulating ideas for the prosperity of Papua. This was conveyed by adat community figure Wanusau, Alfons Kambu, during a meeting with the General Chairman of PSI’s Central Executive Board, Kaesang Pangarep, in Maybrat, Sorong, Southwest Papua. Alfons stressed the importance of unity in strengthening the region’s development vision and mission. “So that we unite to enlarge the existing vision-mission, this plan will become even greater,” he said, quoted on Tuesday, 5 May 2026. He also hoped that PSI could play an active role in drawing attention to Southwest Papua to ensure more equitable development in the area. In response, Kaesang stated that his party accepts all the input provided. He affirmed that he would follow up on these aspirations by conveying them to Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. “We accept all this input. Later, I will try to convey it to Mas Wapres,” Kaesang said.
