Former Deputy Chief of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Sony Sonjaya has revealed an alleged fictitious procurement of CCTV cameras and fingerprint devices within the corruption case concerning the management of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme for 2025-2026. The statement was conveyed by Sony Sonjaya’s legal counsel, Krisna Murti, after accompanying his client during questioning as a suspect by investigators from the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes at the Attorney General’s Office in Jakarta on Thursday. “Mr Sony disclosed something larger than state losses, namely that before Mr Sony joined, there was already a contract for the procurement of CCTV and fingerprint devices,” Krisna stated at the Jampidsus Building. Krisna explained that BGN contracted a third party or outsourcing firm for the procurement of CCTV and fingerprint devices with a value exceeding Rp300 billion. The contract was said to have existed before Sony joined BGN. He mentioned that each Nutritional Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG) was to be fitted with five CCTV units, bringing the total requirement to approximately 5,000 CCTV units and fingerprint devices. “So all of it, 5,000 CCTVs and fingerprint devices, had to be installed. Beneficiaries must scan their fingerprints to be matched with the SPPG,” he said. He added that the vendor’s contract expires on 19 February 2026. Before the contract period ended, Sony had requested clarification from the vendor regarding the procurement results at one school. However, according to him, the vendor could not demonstrate the procurement results. “This means the 5,000 CCTVs with fingerprint devices for beneficiaries were not installed,” Krisna stated. On Thursday, Jampidsus investigators questioned Sony Sonjaya as a suspect in the alleged corruption case involving the MBG programme management for approximately nine hours. After the questioning, Sony, a retired National Police officer, did not provide any statement to the media. In this case, Jampidsus investigators have named five suspects: former BGN Head Dadan Hindayana; former BGN Deputy Chief for Organisational Development and Institutional Relations Lodewyk Pusung; former BGN Deputy Chief for Nutritional Fulfilment Operations Sony Sonjaya; private sector party Asep Yusuf Soemantri; and Commissioner of PT Yasa Artha Trimanunggal Andri Mulyono.
