The effort by former Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Sony Sonjaya, to obtain Justice Collaborator (JC) status in the alleged corruption case concerning the management of the Free Nutritious Meal Programme (MBG) at the BGN has entered a critical phase. The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has confirmed that the application submitted by Sony has reached the investigators and is currently under further review. However, the prospects of the request being granted still depend on the results of the investigators’ in-depth assessment.

Director of Investigation at the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus), Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, stated that the JC request letter from Sony has been received by the investigative team. “The letter has been received and is being studied,” he said on Wednesday, 10 June 2026. According to him, investigators will not rush to make a decision. All information provided by Sony must first be tested and cross-checked against the evidence already gathered by the investigative team during the case investigation process. This process is considered crucial to assess the extent of the suspect’s contribution in helping to uncover the case at hand. Consequently, there is no certainty yet on when the AGO will take a stance on the request. “There is no deadline. We study it first and then we check the evidence we have obtained and so forth,” he said.

Previously, new developments emerged in the investigation of the alleged corruption case concerning the management of the Free Nutritious Meal Programme (MBG) at the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). The former Deputy Head of BGN, Sony Sonjaya, who is now a suspect, has chosen to take the step of becoming a Justice Collaborator (JC). Furthermore, through his legal counsel, Sony is claimed to have begun disclosing information regarding other parties suspected of being connected to the case currently being handled by the AGO. Sony’s legal counsel, Krisna Murti, stated that the JC application had been officially submitted to AGO investigators. According to him, this move is a form of his client’s cooperation to help uncover parties with larger roles in the case. “It means that we are cooperating with investigators to uncover the larger roles within the presidential programme I mentioned earlier,” said Krisna Murti at the AGO Round Building in South Jakarta on Monday, 8 June 2026.
