Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Filming Completed, Metal Sonic to Debut in 2027
Good news for fans of the blue hedgehog. Director Jeff Fowler has officially announced that filming for the latest sequel in the Sonic film franchise, Sonic the Hedgehog 4, has been completed.
“Filming for #SonicMovie4 is complete!” Fowler wrote on his social media, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter on Friday (May 15th) local time. This announcement marks a significant step for Paramount Pictures in continuing the success of the adaptation of Sega’s popular video game.
In his post, Fowler surprised fans by sharing a photo of himself with a Metal Sonic doll. This character is a robotic version of the villainous Sonic, who was previously hinted at in the third film. Metal Sonic is expected to be the main threat in the latest storyline.
Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is scheduled to be released in theaters on March 19, 2027.
The fourth film will once again feature a lineup of top actors to bring the iconic characters from the world of Sega to life. Ben Schwartz is confirmed to return as the voice of the main character, Sonic.
The list of other voice actors involved includes:
In addition to the voice actors, the live-action cast will also include Jim Carrey, James Marsden, and Tika Sumpter. Behind the scenes, Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, and Toru Nakahara will once again serve as producers.
Paramount’s decision to continue with a fourth film is due to the impressive performance of the previous films. Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which was released in 2024, grossed a fantastic $490 million (approximately 7.8 trillion in Indonesian Rupiah) at the global box office.
Film critic David Rooney praised the third film as a well-balanced and fast-paced blend of action and slapstick comedy, with iconic locations such as Tokyo and London.
The franchise began with the release of the first film in February 2020 and has continued to grow rapidly, including the spin-off series Knuckles on the Paramount+ platform. (Ant/E-3)
