Sompo Indonesia has officially launched Sompo Syariah as a standalone Islamic general insurance company in Indonesia. Its establishment marks the first time Sompo Group has operated such an entity in any of its markets worldwide.

Sompo Indonesia director Yolanda Widjaja said the creation of Sompo Syariah was part of the company’s efforts to develop Sharia-based protection services for the Indonesian public.

“For the first time in Sompo Group’s operational history across various countries, we are witnessing the birth of an Islamic general insurance company operating as a separate entity,” Yolanda said at Sompo Syariah’s grand launch and thanksgiving event in Jakarta on Wednesday (21 October 2026).

Yolanda said Sompo Indonesia fully supports Sompo Syariah’s operations. She expressed hope that the company would grow and contribute to Indonesia’s Islamic insurance industry.

In her view, support from the parent company, partnerships with business partners and public trust are important foundations for Sompo Syariah’s development.

Sompo Indonesia has offered Sharia-based protection services since 2017. With Sompo Syariah now operating as a separate company, its Sharia services and product development are expected to become more focused.

Sompo Syariah president director Ratna Indrayani said the company was committed to providing protection that is fair, transparent and in accordance with Sharia principles.

“Our focus is to serve the public with solutions that meet modern needs while remaining firmly grounded in values that provide customers with stability and confidence,” Ratna said.

Ratna said Sompo Syariah would broaden public access to Sharia-based protection through education, outreach and the development of products tailored to customers’ needs.

According to data from the Indonesian Sharia Insurance Association (AASI), Islamic general insurance industry assets reached Rp10.8 trillion in the first quarter of 2026, up 13.77 per cent from the same period a year earlier.

The growth reflects the development of the Islamic general insurance industry as it seeks to widen public access to Sharia-based protection services.
