The government has implemented a work-from-home (WFH) policy every Friday for civil servants (ASN) and adapted it for private sector employees. However, several workers in Jakarta claim they will not yet start WFH this coming Friday.

One worker, Puji (42), stated that her office is still reviewing the WFH policy. Although instructions from the centre have been issued, her unit is awaiting an official decision letter for on-the-ground implementation.

“Now we’re still waiting for a decision from the superiors. I heard it’s already been issued (the instruction), but in our office, they make a follow-up decision, and that hasn’t appeared yet,” said Puji at Sudirman Station on Thursday (9/4/2026).

Puji, who works at the Jakarta Health Polytechnic (Poltekkes), mentioned there are special considerations in the education sector. This is because most activities involve field practice that is difficult to conduct online.

“We’re a health campus, so there are many considerations. It could be that the output for the students won’t be achieved. In our place, 60 percent are already in practice, full practice. If it’s made WFH, it’s actually not suitable if using Zoom,” she explained.

“But since it’s an instruction from above, it’s being adapted with the creation of an effective digital-based lecture system, which will then be evaluated,” she added.

Echoing Puji, Dio (21), a private sector employee, also said his office has not yet implemented WFH this coming Friday. According to him, the management is currently studying the right scheme to ensure employee productivity remains maintained.

“Right now, it’s actually still being drafted, meaning it hasn’t been determined yet whether there will be WFH this Friday or not. The decision hasn’t been made,” said Dio.

Nevertheless, Dio admitted he supports the WFH policy amid the uncertain global situation. Moreover, his office does not operate in the service sector, allowing employees to work from anywhere.

“Actually, I agree because it becomes one solution for workers to be more productive. They have more time because they don’t need to commute on Fridays, saving more energy,” he concluded.

As is known, the government has implemented the WFH policy as a fuel efficiency measure amid the conflict in the Middle East. The prepared scheme allows employees to work from home one day per week.
