JAKARTA — Soeharto Heerdjan Hospital (RSSH) has issued a statement in response to a viral video concerning allegations that a woman was forcibly admitted to the psychiatric ward by her husband.

In the video circulating on social media, a mother claimed that her daughter had no psychiatric disorder and was forcibly admitted to the psychiatric hospital by her husband due to marital conflict.

In response to these allegations, RSSH firmly denied any practice of coercion or bribery in the case.

The hospital emphasised that the patient, identified as EO, came to the facility not by force, but was brought directly by her family members.

“The patient EO, whose video went viral, came to Soeharto Heerdjan Hospital escorted by her husband, her father, and with the knowledge of her mother. So of their own accord, they brought the patient to our hospital,” explained Soeko when met by Kompas.com at RSSH on Monday (9 March 2026).

EO had previously been taken to another hospital but was subsequently referred to RSSH as she required mental health treatment.

Upon arrival at the emergency department, RSSH psychiatrists conducted examination and assessment of EO. Based on the examination results, the doctor recommended that EO be admitted for intensive care.

“However, we at the hospital cannot disclose medical records as that is confidential; only the patient and her family can directly access the medical records,” said Soeko.

Although refusing to disclose details, Soeko assured that the patient had undergone a complete assessment process and indeed required medical treatment for her mental condition.

Regarding the mother’s complaint that she was prevented from visiting her daughter, Soeko stated that this was a request made by the husband when signing the treatment consent form.

“We don’t know what happened between the husband and the mother (of EO); I don’t want to enter that sphere. However, there was indeed a statement during informed consent that the patient should preferably not be visited by her mother. Perhaps my assumption is that if visited by her mother, it could trigger emotional distress in the patient,” he explained.

Regarding the video showing EO restrained on a bed, the hospital confirmed that physical restraint measures were employed.
