Sodomy-case inmate mobbed to death

JAKARTA (JP): A sodomy prisoner, who was attacked by three other prisoners at the Cipinang prison, East Jakarta, on Jan. 1, died yesterday.

East Jakarta Police Chief. Lt. Col. Nanan Sukarna said Wilson Situmorang died at the Kramat Jati police hospital with nine stab wounds to the body.

Nanan said the motive for the assault was still unknown, but assumed Wilson was stabbed after trying to sodomize another prisoner. "We are still questioning the three attackers," he said.

Penitentiary sources said Wilson, 39, was serving a one-year jail term for sodomizing a street child in Pasar Minggu.

Wilson was a resident of Jl. Empang Tiga, South Jakarta. His body has been sent to the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital for a post mortem.

The three inmates are under investigation. They are Thomas Sembiring, Basri Sembiring and Hendro Febrianto.

Lt. Col. Nanan said six people believed to have witnessed the assault were being questioned. (jun/02)
