Social Minister Gus Ipul Claims to Have Received Extensive Input from KPK on People's School Programme
Jakarta – Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf, or Gus Ipul, has completed consultations with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) regarding procurement processes at the Ministry of Social Affairs, particularly for the People’s School programme.
Gus Ipul claimed to have received extensive input from the KPK during the consultation.
“The results of the consultation provided us with a lot of input, many notes, and many things that must serve as corrections and improvements for us so that prevention can be carried out earnestly, closing all loopholes, and ultimately ensuring a transparent and fair process,” Gus Ipul told reporters on Friday, 8 May 2026.
On that occasion, Gus Ipul also consulted with the KPK on the procurement of shoes for the People’s School programme. His side, said Gus Ipul, is currently awaiting the results of the KPK’s analysis and review regarding the procurement.
“We consulted and informed them for analysis and evaluation by the KPK, and later the KPK will convey it at the appropriate time,” he stated.
Previously reported, the planned procurement of shoes for the People’s School programme had sparked widespread discussion on social media.
Amid budget efficiency policies, the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) is known to have allocated around Rp27 billion for that need in 2026.
The budget is intended for the procurement of 39,345 pairs of shoes for students. Based on the Ministry of Social Affairs’ General Procurement Plan (RUP) document for the 2026 Fiscal Year in the SiRUP system, the price per pair of shoes is set at around Rp700,000, with a total value of Rp27,541,500,000 sourced from the state budget (APBN).
This programme is implemented by the General Secretariat of Kemensos through an e-purchasing mechanism and is planned to run from January to December 2026 as part of support for the People’s School.
However, the document does not yet provide detailed specifications for the shoes to be purchased. The available information only mentions domestic products, without further details on materials, quality standards, or other technical aspects.
Meanwhile, Gus Ipul emphasised that all budgets in the programme are intended for student needs.
“For the budgeting details, they can be confirmed further. But basically, our budgeting is all for the students. All for the students,” Gus Ipul said at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, 29 April 2026.
