Social Minister and Deputy Urge Palopo Mayor to Prepare Land for People's School
Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) and Deputy Social Minister Agus Jabo Priyono received an audience from Palopo Mayor Naili Trisal at the Ministry of Social Affairs office. On that occasion, Gus Ipul motivated the Palopo Mayor to promptly establish a People’s School.
This would optimise poverty alleviation in Palopo City, South Sulawesi. Currently, no People’s School has been built in Palopo City due to land limitations.
Understanding the issue, Gus Ipul suggested that the mayor and related agencies coordinate intensively with the Ministry of Public Works (Kemen PU) to maximise available land.
“As this is an urban area, try coordinating with Kemen PU,” said Gus Ipul in his statement on Tuesday (14/4/2026).
Meanwhile, Deputy Social Minister Agus Jabo Priyono stated that land limitations in urban areas are a common challenge. However, he emphasised that certain requirements must still be met in selecting land for the People’s School. These requirements must be fulfilled to ensure the safety and comfort of the children who will study there.
“The land should not be too close to the beach, not in disaster-prone locations, not LP2B (Sustainable Food Agriculture Land). The land should also be near roads for easy access, and ensure easy water access,” advised Agus.
In addition to the People’s School, the meeting also discussed PBI JK assistance (Health Insurance Premium Beneficiaries). Currently, some data has not been updated, for example, beneficiaries who have passed away but are still receiving aid.
To prevent this, Agus Jabo reminded the mayor to conduct regular data updates.
“PBI-JK social assistance data updates are every month, while PKH assistance is every three months. Please keep updating it, so it can be redirected to those who need it more,” concluded Agus.
