Social Affairs Minister Meets RI Ombudsman to Discuss People's Schools and Daycare
The meeting took place at the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) complex in Jakarta on Tuesday (5/5/2026). The Ombudsman was represented by one of its members, Maneger Nasution.
“Going forward, we will follow up on this cooperation by creating an MoU and simultaneously developing a roadmap for how services in the Ministry of Social Affairs environment, and also with the regions, can align to ensure that social services meet the established standards,” said Gus Ipul after the meeting.
Gus Ipul added that every recommendation from the RI Ombudsman will be followed up by Kemensos. This is done to improve the quality of services at Kemensos.
“From the many things we have followed up on, the performance of the Ministry of Social Affairs in the service sector has continuously improved. It’s not perfect yet, but it’s steadily improving,” he stated.
Gus Ipul gave an example that in 2025, Kemensos dismissed around 49 assistants for the Family Hope Programme (PKH). This was done as a follow-up to the Ombudsman’s recommendation.
“I often repeat this, sir. Last year, we issued warnings one and two to nearly 500, and 49 of them have been dismissed. This year, there are already four PKH assistants who have also been dismissed,” he said.
“So this is part of the follow-up and recommendation from the Ombudsman that we have carried out,” added Gus Ipul.
Meanwhile, Maneger explained that over the past five years, Kemensos has been one of the ministries proactive in implementing the Ombudsman’s recommendations. And for the current discussion, one of them relates to the people’s schools programme.
“Actually, there was a discussion earlier that I think was very interesting. We realise that one of the national strategic programmes being carried out by the current government under Mr Prabowo is under this minister, one of which is the People’s Schools. We discussed that earlier,” said Maneger.
He explained that the Ombudsman has conducted a study on people’s schools, the results of which have been submitted to Kemensos. The Ombudsman and Kemensos are committed to ensuring this programme runs well.
“And Minister Gus explained in general earlier the efforts being made, and that’s what we will continue to support. We will create service standards and ensure that those standards are implemented. That’s roughly it for the People’s Schools,” he said.
In addition, this meeting also discussed childcare services (daycare). The Ombudsman wants to ensure that the licensing process for daycares and their supervision are carried out properly.
“Of course, in line with its domain, the Ombudsman will ensure and encourage this to meet the needs of our society. Therefore, the Ombudsman certainly encourages the government, including local governments, to ensure that the registration, licensing, accreditation, and supervision processes are truly carried out and are very urgent,” he stated.
