Smoking in Angkot

Smoking in Angkot

From Pikiran Rakyat

On Dec. 18, 1995, as usual, I went to university early in the
morning. As soon as I got to Kebon Kelapa terminal, I got on an
Angkot (small city bus) to go to my university in Ledeng. I was
the first passenger to board.

I suddenly heard the driver tell a man who was boarding the
Angkot: "Please, extinguish your cigarette, if you want to ride
in this vehicle." The driver forcefully told every smoker the
same thing.

"No smoking", "Cigarette-free environment" and "Uphold
national discipline" signs were plastered all over the inside of
the bus. Smoking is obviously prohibited on his Angkot.

I highly appreciate the driver's concern for his passengers'
health and his refusal to allow passengers to smoke on the bus.
