JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk (BBTN) assesses that the Financial Services Authority’s (OJK) policy to no longer display debt histories below Rp 1 million in the Financial Services Information System (SLIK) could pose risks to banks.

BTN’s President Director, Nixon LP Napitupulu, stated that the company respects the policy as part of the regulator’s efforts to promote financing access, particularly for low-income communities (MBR).

Nevertheless, he warned that the policy risks allowing debtors with problematic credit histories of small amounts below Rp 1 million across various banking accounts or other financial services to pass through.

Therefore, he emphasised that credit granting decisions should remain in the hands of the banks, as they bear the risks.

Nixon requested that banks be given the flexibility to assess prospective debtors.

This is because credit assessments must be conducted on a case-by-case basis, considering each debtor’s data and profile.

Additionally, Nixon stressed the importance of more detailed data access in SLIK, including the number of credit accounts held by the debtor.

This way, banks can distinguish between customers genuinely affected by certain conditions and those with poor credit records.

He has proposed this to OJK in a meeting discussing the new SLIK regulations, targeted for implementation in June 2026.

Overall, Nixon admitted that the company cannot yet ascertain the impact of the policy on credit disbursement, particularly for subsidised home ownership loans (KPR).

Meanwhile, BTN’s Risk Management Director, Setiyo Wibowo, added that SLIK is not the only indicator in the credit approval process.

In banking practice, assessments are conducted comprehensively using the prudence principle.
